Antibiotics have been used extensively in agriculture since the 1960’s. and most are not given for disease prevention either, but as growth promoters. Healthy farm animals are estimated to receive an astounding 50% to 70% of all antibiotics produced in the US.

In humans, antibiotics not only fight diseases caused by bad bacteria, they are known to kill good bacteria (our first line of defense against illness) as well, along with contributing to a suppressed immune system. and a suppressed immune system leaves us susceptible to all kinds of illnesses.

Could eating meat and poultry from animals that have been given antibiotics ultimately affect “Our good Bacteria” and lead to a lowered immune system all the while making us susceptible to yeast overgrowth? some experts think so!

In addition, the practice of giving livestock antibiotics has also come under scrutiny from those who believe that it does increases the likelihood of antibiotic resistance in humans, thus causing more health challenges.

As a side note, breast cancer appears to be on the rise, as are other cancers. Could antibiotics as well as growth hormones given to fatten cattle and other livestock be partly responsible for the increased cancer statistics? again, some think so!

Antibiotics save lives in serious situations. no one would doubt that! But, when they are over prescribed and added to our food supply, they may cause damage by reducing our army of good bacteria. since most doctors do not tell their patients to replace their good bacteria with probiotics, our immune system will continue to decline.

Keeping these points in mind, it is clear that we must be vigilant with regards to what steps we take to maintain and/or regain our health. It’s basically up to us to insure that we take care of our health.
